Auto un-mount on screen lock
An option, like e.g. in KeePass, to automatically un-mount the BoxCryptor drive if the PC gets locked / the screen saver actives would be nice! If you leave your PC unattended for a while, this will prevent people from accessing your mounted data.

Speed optimization
Optimize the encryption code. In current versions (1.0.x) the encryption with boxcryptor is a bottleneck. If you encrypt files over a fast network (1 Gbit) you only get just 10% of the possible network speed. CPU resources are not saturated.
101 votesWith version 1.3 we introduced AES hardware acceleration and other speed improvements. Up to 50 MB/sec should now be possible on modern processors. Of course, we’re constantly working on improving the speed of BoxCryptor.

Symbolic links
Currently symbolic links do not work with Boxcryptor. Could this be implemented please?

iOS: video support
It would be great if it is possible to decrypt only part of a file, without having to download the whole file at once in the BoxCryptor iOS version.
Example: If I have a video in my Dropbox I can fast-forward to the middle of the video and watch it from their without having to download the whole file (using the Dropbox iOS App). With BoxCryptor I have to wait until the file is completely downloaded before I can start to watch it at all. This is probably hard to implement, but I would love to see this feature :-)91 votes -

I request the option to don’t save the password (Company/Administrator Settings).
There is only one thing that you will save from an attacker!
Your password!. If it is stored in:
c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Acomba_UG_(haftungsbeschr\BoxCryptor.exe_Url_[Random-Nr]\1.1.0.0\user.config
A Hacker will only copy the file user.config to his PC or Account to get access to the Cryped files. An option to prevent saving will help. The user will enter his password one time at start.
Thanks

File encfs6.xml located in other place different where encrypted files are located
The encfs6.xml file is included in the same folder where the encrypted files are located. This can be a security risk as the encfs6.xml file contains the password and information about the tool used to encrypt the files (BoxCryptor) so a potential attacker could recover some information as the encryption algorithm used by BoxCryptor (AES-256) or try to find a bug in the encryption tool used.
So to avoid it I think it would be a great idea if it would be possible to have the encfs6.xml file located in a different place where encrypted files are located, for example…

Support for MS OneNote
Hiho,
I'm trying to share my Microsoft OneNote notebook via BoxCryptor/Dropbox with another computer, but OneNote doesn't even recognize it as a shared folder. Not sure if this is related to the missing network share feature or if another "flag" or something is missing here. Would be nice to be investigated because it would be a very useful feature, at least for me :)...
Thanks and regards,

add CrashPlan support
CrashPlan is a Offshore backup solution. Whould be awesome, if you support this too in a native way.

Add the ability to compress the encrypted files.
Actually this idea is from a comment @Timothy made regarding the suggestion to "Support random end-of-file padding, so the original file length cannot be determined".
Supporting the compression as well as the encryption of files in the Boxcryptor folder would provide even more security, save bandwidth, and reduce the total number of bytes stored in my Dropbox (as well as on my computer).

Set custom drive size when using BoxCryptor unlimited on the desktop
Would be helpful to be able to set custom drive size when map / define a drive (on the desktop edition once you've registered).
Currently it just shows the same size as the underlying drive & says that it's used the same amount of space as the underlying drive. This is confusing as you've actually added less than this to the encrypted store. (It seems "accurate" when your using the trial / free version that has a limited drive size). I assume it takes this approach so that the remaining space in the encrypted store is accurate.

Auto unmount after some time of inactivity
TrueCrypt has an interesting option which consists in auto unmount virtual disks if they haven't been used/accessed during a specific period of time, for example when you go for having lunch or when you left the office for go home.
Due to security reasons it would be very interesting to implement the same functionality in BoxCryptor for its virtual disks.

Make it work with Blackberry
I moved my files to the new virtual drive but I can no longer access them from my Blackberry due to the encryption.

Provider better EncFS compatibility
I have already an EncFS volume created with the default EncFS settings, which are currently not supported by BoxCryptor but are IMHO the better security settings. I guess most EncFS users have the default settings.
BoxCryptor would be a perfect mobile companion if it supported the EncFS default settings.

I think it's time to have a "real" doc for both the GUI and the cmd line switches...
Right now one must jump between blog, forum and so on!!28 votes -
